Study Visa – DIY Toolkit – Gathering of Required Documentation for the Application

Please find below the required documents pertaining to a Study Visa application –

From You (‘The Student’):

  • A certified copy of the student’s passport title page
  • A certified copy of the student’s Unabridged Birth Certificate
  • A certified copy of documentation confirming the parent’s marital status, if applicable (Marriage Certificate, Divorce Decree or the Death Certificate of a late spouse)
  • The affidavit where a spousal relationship to a South African citizen or resident is applicable, as well as documentation proving cohabitation and the extent to which the related financial responsibilities are shared by the parties and setting out the particulars of children in the spousal relationship
  • Court order granting full or specific parental responsibilities and rights, if applicable
  • Written consent from both parents and full parental responsibilities, if applicable
  • Proof of adoption, if applicable
  • Legal separation order, if applicable
  • Proof of physical address and contact number of the adult person residing in the Republic, who is acting or has accepted to act as such student’s guardian, including a confirmatory letter from that guardian
  • Proof of consent for the intended stay from both parents, or where applicable, from the parent or legal guardian who has been issued with a court order granting full or specific parental responsibilities and rights or legal guardianship of the student
  • Proof of medical cover renewed annually for the period of study with a medical scheme registered in terms of the Medical Schemes Act
  • An undertaking by the parents or legal guardian that the learner will have medical cover for the full duration of the period of study
  • Proof of sufficient financial means available to the learner whilst resident in the Republic
    • This to be in the form of three months bank statements
    • The amount of R3 000.00 per applicant is taken as sufficient
  • A Medical Certificate form to be completed, dated and signed by registered medical practitioner consequent to a basic medical examination with regards to your general state of health, detailing any medical condition you may suffer from
  • A Radiological Report form to be completed, dated and signed by a registered radiologist consequent to a chest x-ray. Only applicable to children 12 years and older
  • A yellow fever vaccination certificate if that person travelled or intends travelling from or transiting through a yellow fever endemic area: (Provided that the certificate shall not be required where that person travelled or intends travelling in direct transit through such area)
  • Original Police Clearance Certificates from every country where the student has resided for 12 months or more since attaining the age of 18 years. This can be obtained from the necessary police authorities within the respective country(ies) or relevant Embassies should the student be based outside the required country
  • Two (x2) colour passport sized photos

From the South African Learning Institution:

  • An official letter confirming provisional acceptance or acceptance at that learning institution and the duration of the course.
  • An undertaking by the Registrar or Principal of the learning institution to –
  1. Provide proof of registration as contemplated in the relevant legislation within 60 days of registration; or
  2. In the event of failure to register by the closing date, provide the Director-General with a notification of failure to register within 7 days of the closing date of registration;
  3. Within 30 days, notify the Director-General that the applicant is no longer registered with such institution; and
  4. Within 30 days, notify the Director-General when the applicant has completed his or her studies or requires extending such period of study.
