Namibia Work Visa

Namibia Work Visa Process

The Work Visa process is specific to each company and foreign national, depending on role requirements and employer compliance. Employers are expected to make reasonable efforts to promote the integration and development of qualified Namibian nationals.

Foreign nationals may be employed under the following frameworks:

Types of Permits

Namibia offers a range of work permit categories to accommodate different employment needs, from short-term technical assignments to long-term employment opportunities. Selecting the correct permit is essential to ensure compliance with immigration regulations and avoid unnecessary delays.

SHORT TERM WORK PERMIT

The Short Term Work Permit is designed for short-term work assignments in Namibia. This may include installations, equipment breakdowns, critical technical failures, or other time-sensitive business requirements that necessitate immediate intervention.

This permit is typically issued for an initial period of up to 90 days and is non-renewable.

LONG TERM WORK PERMIT

The Long Term Work Permit is designed for foreign nationals taking up ongoing employment in Namibia. The sponsoring employer must demonstrate that the role cannot be filled by a suitably qualified citizen and that the foreign national possesses the required skills and experience.

These permits are generally issued for a up to 2 years and may be renewed, subject to compliance with immigration regulations and continued employment. Supporting documentation typically includes qualifications, employment contracts, and justification for foreign employment.

Important Considerations

A mandatory requirement for a Long Term Work Permit application is proof that the position was advertised for a minimum period of 14–30 days. The Namibian entity is required to prepare a comprehensive overview of all candidates who applied for the role, including those who were shortlisted and interviewed. In addition, a formal motivation report must be compiled outlining the reasons why the applicants were not considered suitably qualified or experienced for the position.
